2008 Guild Wars PAX Tournaments Rules


The 2008 Guild Wars PAX tournaments will feature Rollerbeetle Racing and 2v2 Limited Play (previously known as "sealed deck"). This year, each tournament is its own event, with prizes given on the spot. Prizes for Rollerbeetle Racing include signed copies of the Art of Guild Wars book and various unlock keys. Prizes for 2v2 Limited Play include video cards and other gaming hardware.

When:

The Rollerbeetle Racing tournaments will take place Friday through Sunday (August 29—31). The 2v2 Limited Play tournaments will take place on Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31.

What to Bring:

We have unlocked Guild Wars accounts for competition use. All you need to bring along is your willingness to compete!

Event Registration

Players may register in advance for ONLY ONE open tournament. Each tournament will also have a list for alternates. Registration is located at the tournament area of the ArenaNet booth. If a tournament is not full by its start time, then players from the alternate list will be allowed to join until that tournament is full.

One player on a team for 2v2 Limited Play may register for the whole team. Both players on the team need not be present at time of registration.

Rollerbeetle Racing Event Structure

Each tournament consists of eight players competing in three Swiss rounds, followed by two single elimination rounds. After the final single elimination round, prizes are given to the top players.

2v2 Limited Play Event Structure

Each tournament consists of four teams competing in double elimination style. Teams consist of two players and two Heroes. After the last round, prizes are given to the top teams. Heroes do not get prizes.

Event Rules

This event uses the Universal Guild Wars Tournament Rules.

2v2 Limited Play Event Rules

The 2v2 Limited Play tournament uses a completely new PvP random skill generator. Players will use this generator to create a list of skills they can choose from when creating builds for the tournament. Hero skills must also be chosen from a list created by the random skill generator.

Teams will compete in the Hero Battle arena, using the same scoring and time rules as Hero Battles. Each team will have two Heroes. Control of Heroes is up to the team members. One player may control both Heroes on the team, or each player may control one Hero.

Registered players will have access to a competition account with everything unlocked and ready to play. Players have until 15 minutes after the tournament start time to set up their character and Heroes. Any players attempting to play without using the random skill generator are dropped from the tournament and are not eligible for prizes.

Registration Information

To receive prizes, all winners must present one of the following forms of identification:

  • a driver's license, or
  • a passport, or
  • a copy of a birth certificate and photo IDs (school IDs are acceptable).

All winners must also execute the following: a Publicity Release, a Liability Release, and a Declaration of Eligibility. For players under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must also execute the Declaration and Releases.


Release; Amendments: By entering (or consenting to the entry of a person under 18) a 2008 Guild Wars PAX Tournament, each participant (or the participant's parent or legal guardian, if the participant is under 18) and the winner (or the winner's parent or legal guardian, if winner is under 18) thereby releases ArenaNet, Inc., NCsoft Corporation, NC Interactive, Inc., NCsoft Europe Ltd., and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agencies (collectively "ArenaNet") from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, related to any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the 2008 Guild Wars PAX Tournament, misdelivery, acceptance, possession, use of or inability to use any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses, and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty, or other theory. Except where prohibited, you agree that any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved under the laws of the State of Washington, without respect to any conflict of law issues, and participants agree that such shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the U.S. Federal and State Courts of King County, Washington, U.S.A. All of ArenaNet's decisions regarding the application and interpretation of the Rules are final. ArenaNet may amend these 2008 Guild Wars PAX Tournament Rules at any time or from time to time.

ArenaNet, and any of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, professional advisors, employees, and agencies will not be responsible for: (a) any late, lost, misrouted, garbled, distorted, or damaged transmissions or entries; (b) telephone, electronic, hardware, software, network, Internet, or other computer- or communications-related malfunctions or failures; (c) any event disruptions, losses, or damages; or (d) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the 2008 Guild Wars PAX Tournament. Participation in the 2008 Guild Wars PAX Tournament is void where restricted, taxed, or prohibited by law.
