Factions Championship:

ArenaNet announces a special competitive opportunity taking place in early May. We want 9 guilds from around the world to compete in the Guild Wars Factions E3 Challenge.

The selected guilds will challenge The Last Pride [EvIL], the winner of the E3 Appearance Prize, to a quick 20-minute battle. We will keep track of the winner of each battle and how quickly they achieve victory. The guild that wins its match in the shortest amount of time will take home the gold; the second-fasted the silver; the third-fastest the bronze.

If your guild doesn't win, but manages to go the distance—that is, the guild remains standing for 20 minutes against the Season 1 GWFC Champion—then your guild will earn the Survivors' Prize package instead!

With two ways to win, what are you waiting for? Sign up today!

How do I submit my guild?
If your guild is interested in being one of the challengers, you will need to email tournament@arena.net with the name of your guild, what region it is from, a tournament roster of eight players (name, email address, and mailing address for each player), and a list of the times your guild is available to play, choosing from those listed on the following schedule. Please also include at least one of the in-game handles for your roster players'' characters so that we can contact you within the game if it becomes necessary during the event.

Each time slot will have three guilds assigned to it, one as the main challenger and two others as first and second alternates (in case the main challenger is not available).

You must submit this email to us, with all the required information, no later than May 1, 2006 at Noon GMT to be considered for this opportunity.

If your guild is selected, you will receive an email detailing your guild's time slot and whether you are the main challenger or an alternate.

Your guild should be online at least 15 minutes before your scheduled match time to verify that it is available to participate in the scheduled match. You can message Admin Mike or Admin Isaiah at that time and let us know that you are available to compete. If we can't make contact with you in the game, then we will move on to the first alternate and so on.

What match times are available?
Matches are scheduled to take place at the following times:

Wednesday, May 10, 2006

How does this work?
At the scheduled times, the pre-arranged challenger will challenge the Season One Champion to an unrated GvG match. As such, this match will take place in the Guild Hall of the Season One Champions. The Champions will be allowed to change Guild Halls between matches if they wish, so don't expect to know in advance in which hall the match will take place.

The match will end when there is a winner OR after the match has gone on for 20 minutes.

If the challenging guilds "goes the distance" (survives for the 20 minutes) then they will have won the Survivor's Prize.

If the match ends before the 20-minute deadline, then the winner and the amount of time it took to achieve victory will be recorded.

In either case, the number of kills against NPCs and opposing team' characters will also be recorded as a tie-breaker.

At the end of the event, the guild that won the fastest victory will earn the E3 Challenge Gold Medal! The guild that won the second fastest victory will earn the E3 Challenge Silver Medal, and the third fastest victory will earn the E3 Challenge Bronze Medal.

In the event of ties in the time taken until victory—or if every match plays out to the 20 minute deadline—then whichever team had the greater number of NPC and opponent character kills will be the victor.

In the event that any ties remain, then the guild with the highest morale at the end of the match will be the victor.

What are the prizes?
For guilds that "go the distance," each member of their tournament roster will win:
  • A Guild Wars® t-shirt and
  • The 2 skill pins released at E3.

For guilds that win the E3 Challenge, each member of their tournament roster will win:

  • A Guild Wars t-shirt
  • The 2 skill pins released at E3
  • A copy of Guild Wars (the original Prophecies campaign) signed by the entire dev team
  • Their E3 Challenge medal (gold, silver, or bronze)
