Guild Wars Community Fansite Program

ArenaNet is a strong believer in sites that support our community of gamers. Fansites build our community and bring us together in special ways, and we want to support those sites and those webmasters and site staff members who spend the time and effort to create a fansite and keep it going.

When you get a Guild Wars-related fansite up and running and wish to have it reviewed, please contact us at fansites@arena.net. We'll check over the site, and if it appears to meet the preliminary requirements, we will send you the official application form and will begin the review process. If our review subsequently indicates the your site qualifies for the program, we'll add the site to the Fansite Roster on the official Guild Wars site, with a direct link to the site. If the site does not qualify at this time, we will provide you with feedback on how you can amend or expand the site to qualify for listing. Please note that the GWCFP is, at this time, intended only for fansites. We hope to have a similar program for guild sites in the future, but at this time, only sites that are exclusively Guild Wars fansites qualify for a review and for possible inclusion in the program.

The Program

There are four recognition levels in the Guild Wars Community Fansite Program:

  • Listed Guild Wars Fansite
  • Honored Guild Wars Fansite
  • Elite Guild Wars Fansite
  • Specialty Guild Wars Fansite

A qualified site can be added to the program and listed after receipt of an application form and a formal review of the site. A Listed Fansite may apply for Honored or Specialty status after it has been a Listed site for at least 60 days. An Honored Site that meets the additional requirements of the Elite category may apply to ArenaNet for a review after it has been established for at least 90 days.

We set a high standard for the fansites that we include on our Fansite Roster. We want all sites, at every level, to reflect positively on the game. Sometimes, a site may need modification before it can be considered. In those instances, we will provide feedback on possible changes. After amendments, the fansite may be resubmitted, but no more frequently than once every 60 days.

Please read below for the requirements at each level in the program:

Specialty Guild Wars Fansite

A Specialty Fansite offers a body of content and a presentation that is comparable in quality to that of an Honored or Elite Fansite, but which is offered with a more narrow or specific focus. That is to say, a Specialty Fansite might choose not to offer a forum or a front-standing news page, but may offer an extensive encyclopedia, a frequently-published comic, or a periodic electronic magazine. For such valued support, the Specialty Fansite designation is given. Specialty Fansites still must meet The Expectations, and must fulfill other requirements of an Honored or Elite Fansite. In return, Specialty Fansites may receive benefits comparable to those given an Honored Fansite. In some rare instances, a Specialty Fansite may receive an Elite Fansite benefit, as determined by the ArenaNet Community Team. Questions regarding qualifications for Specialty Fansite may be directed to fansites@arena.net.

The Expectations

All fansites in the Guild Wars Community Fansite Program member site must agree to the following:

  • To meet and uphold high standards for quality for content and design
  • To abide by the legal requirements stated in the Terms of Use
  • To display the appropriate copyright, logo, and legal information and to attribute content and news post from the official site
  • To assure that site content reflects positively upon the company and the game
  • To attribute news from the official site clearly so that there is no confusion between official news and fansite news
  • To disallow and remove links or promotion of adult (pornographic) sites, sites that provide or support software hacking or piracy, sites that support, advertise or offer in-game items for real currency, and sites that encourage game cheating
  • To moderate forums and live chat rooms to enforce reasonable behavior standards
  • To assure that all staff members behave appropriately and to make staffing decisions that assure that the entire site staff is fully in support of the program, the site, and most importantly, the community
  • To abide by the game's User Agreement and Rules of Conduct

Regarding Traffic Statistics

In order to receive the rewards of Elite Fansite status, fansites in that category are required to submit site traffic (hit count) statistics on a monthly basis. Statistics should be submitted via e-mail on the first of each month to fansites@arena.net. In the case of non-Elite sites, we would still be grateful to receive this information, at the discretion of the webmaster. We acquire this information merely for general, statistical purposes. Traffic counts alone will not be used as a determining factor in a site's acceptance into the Guild Wars Community Fansite Program, and all information that is submitted to ArenaNet is held as confidential and will never be revealed without the fansite owner's express permission.
